Charles Dickens is widely regarded as one of Great Britain's greatest authors.

Born in 1812, his work as both an author and a social critic were widely admired during his lifetime, and his popularity has continued to the present day.

His most famous works include David Copperfield, Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Hard Times, Barnaby Rudge, A Tale of Two Cities, Nicholas Nickleby as well as his best-know work, the ever-popular novella A Christmas Carol.

The day is celebrated on his birthday every year.
